Write for a Reader

Blogging about books

What is this blog?

Posted by shelburns on August 6, 2008

I am a 3rd grade Reading/Writing/Social Studies teacher in Texas.  I have spent the past few weeks searching blogs for ideas on how to make my classroom and teaching even better.  I have gotten professional development ideas, books to use with the kids, and inspiration as I have searched.  I became inspired by the ladies at Two Writing Teachers to start my own blog so that I can document the goings on in my classroom with reading and writing, over this next year and beyond.  I hope that what I add can enlighten other teachers as well as be information to look back on for my students.  I am new to blogging, but plan to learn as I go.

Hi! I am looking forward to reading about your experiences with 3rd graders and writing. It’s helpful to know more about how “older kids” write.

I read this one recently too. (My review is coming at the end of the month.) I hope the movie does it justice. (Though I’m a bit skeptical to be honest…books-turned-movies rarely match up to my hopes.) But maybe it will bring more readers to the book. :)

    Hi Shelly!

You won the Compassion Friends doll during BBAW. Will you please email me your address so I can forward it on to Abbie? Thanks!

Shelly – welcome to the world of book reviewing/blogging! I enjoyed your review of *The Silent Boy* (below). I’ll be checking back back, as I have 10 and 12 yr old readers who might enjoy your YA picks.

I wanted to thank you for mentioning my blog in this post. The “Tuesday Thingers” meme is started by Marie over at http://www.bostonbibliophile.com . Each week she asks some question related to LibraryThing. I enjoy participating because I always learn more about my library (often, better defining my reading tastes), and like to read the perspectives of others.
